Miami’s source for breast implant information
In addition to determining the size and profile of breast implants that are best for you, you also have the option to choose either saline or silicone gel breast implants. Saline breast implants are filled with a saline (salt water) solution, so that if the shell ruptures, the saline filling is safely absorbed by the body. A new generation of silicone gel implants has recently been approved by the FDA for women over 21. These silicone implants have undergone years of testing and are considered safe. Silicone gel implants, also known as "gummy bear" implants, feel more like natural breast tissue than saline implants.
The following chart identifies the difference between silicone gel and saline implants.
